Hunters Hill Rugby Union Club
Hunters Hill Rugby narrowly lost to St George 15-10 in a hard fort battle at Boronia Park on Saturday. Although the Hillies forwards won their share of the ball the backs seem to have lost their way. The Hillies will now have to win the remaining games in this round to be a semi final contender.
The shining light comes from the Hillies lower grades who continue to impress with enterprising play. Hillies second grade had a convincing 39 to 19 win over St George with some expansive backline play. The young Hillies backs stretched the opposition resulting in crowd pleasing tries. The result on Saturday puts the Hillies in second place and looking good for the finals.
Third grade went down 12 to 5 in a close match.
Forth Grade won 24 to 5 to completely outclass St George. This win also puts the Hillies in second place. The best for Hunters Hill was five eight Mike Brambe with some great tactical play allowing the Hillies to pile on the points.
The Hillies are away at Kings next week.
Hunters Hill Rugby narrowly lost to Blue Mountains 25-20 at Lapstone Oval in the3 match of the round on Saturday. The Hillies led by Alex Light played some enterprising rugby with tries to Gavin Mork, Shane Boag and Nigel Lasheras. With a half time score of 12 -8 to Blue Mountains the Hillies were looking to have secured the win early in the second half following some sustained play by the Hillies forwards leading to the try of game by Nigel Lasheras.
Although the forwards dominated in some spirited play against the giant Mountain forwards Hunters Hill were let down by some defence lapses which the Blue Mountain exploited. Coaches Starky and Mazengarb were happy with the level of commitment by the forwards with special mention of prop Andy Johnson and Gavin Mork with some powerful hit ups and defence.
The Hillies are at home at Boronia Park next week against to St George.
Hunters Hill Rugby lost 17 - 11 to Briars in a close game at Concord on Saturday. The game was neck and neck at half time with both sides attacking the line with no results. Following the half time break the Hillies pressured Briars with some enterprising play without results. After some solid attack Briars scored a try in the dieing seconds to secure the win. The best for the Hillies were Richard Colley and Stuart Brunsdon with some good hard backline play. Coaches Starky and Mazo said "there is still plenty of improvement to go as we are still developing the combinations".
The second grade also lost 20 - 15 in another close game. Third Game won 11 - 5 in a good performance, while 4th grade also won 28 - 7 with a solid performance with some entertaining running rugby.
