I also understand from another bushwalker who met the NUMC party at the Boyd Crossing, where they had camped, that they left around 7:45 am for their trip to Carra Beanga.

These steps by the service, which should help protect the canyons in their wilderness settings are long overdue. When I first visited some of the Wollangambe Wilderness canyons from the Waratah Ridge, the road going to Pot Hill was very overgrown and almost back to bush. There was no carpark or track extending along the ridge from the old marijuana plantation. Canyoners were quite used to walking from back near the pine forest. The road only became trafficable again, when some canyoners visited the area determined to get their land cruisers as far as possible into the bush and have smashed out all the regrowing vegetation in the process. Now that road is often a morass. An extra 20 minutes of walking each way will not hurt anybody.
