This was to be Joe's last trip before he took up a post-doctoral postion in USA. He wanted to do a good trip - and a trip from Newnes to the Colo seemed to fit the bill.

We camped the second night on a sand bank on the sction fo river below the Capertee junction. I can remember the flies being so bad that we had to eat our dinner sitting in a bush to avoid getting a mouthful of flies.

On the fifth day we climbed out of the river. We were just upstream of Alidade Hill
