A simple test for alcohol dependence.
Answer the following 4 questions to determine if 
you could be dependent on alcohol.

Australian researchers have demonstrated that a simple 4 question screening tool can identify patients who may be dependent on alcohol.

The 4 questions (abbreviated as "CAGE") are:

Question 1.
C: Have you ever felt that you should or actually tried to Cut down on your drinking?

Question 2.
A: Do you get Angry or Annoyed when others comment on or criticise your drinking?

yes.
no

Question 3.
G: Have you ever felt Guilty or bad about your drinking?

yes
no

Question 4.
E: Do you ever need an "Eye-opener" or Early morning drink to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover?

yes
no

Your score explained.

A score of two or more to these questions suggest a high probability of an alcohol dependence disorder. The probability of dependence is significantly increased if the patient also has a history of trauma.
