Rhu Khus oil
Q A friend of mine went to a SMART workshop and brought some Rhu-Khus essential oil. It seems to work well. Can you tell me a bit more about it?

A The Rhu Khus essential oil your friend would have bought was a dilution of 2.5% in Jojoba. It is distilled from VERY SPECIAL VETIVER (Vetiveria Zizanoides) grown wild in the foothills of the Himalayas. It contains over 200 laboratory identified, naturally occuring ingredients.

Khus is the name given to the essential oil derived from the wild vetiver. The essential oil from cultivated vetiver (Andropogon Zizanoides) is known as ‘vetiver(t)’ oil. Vetiver is a tall, reedy grass that is native to India and some other Asian countries. It is grown in places that are vulnerable to soil erosion, particularly hillside locations. The grass has a thick root system that helps hold the soil in place in the monsoon season.

The essential oil is steam-distilled from the roots of the plant. Therefore, the oil has a special affinity with the base (root) chakra….it is very ‘grounding’ and helps clear congestion. It often has a slight greenish tinge, and is associated with the heart chakra. Also, it is useful for cleansing and protecting all of the chakras and the auric field. It lends itself well to the Chakra Sparsha exercise practised in the Ayurvedic Reflexology SMART 2 workshop.
