SUMMARY
Let me share a little about myself:
I am a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Brisbane Australia. I am co-director of Feel-good Health Services with my wife Sharon Stathis. Sharon is a natural therapist and Registered Nurse.
I am a Fellow of the Brisbane Branch of the Australian College of Clinical Psychologists (inc Canberra ACT).  Currently, I hold the position of President of the Brisbane branch.
I write a monthly column in The Local Bulletin under the heading;
“Dear Dick”. This column deals with a wide variety of current psychological issues.
I offer a unique package to help people which involves combining a wide variety of techniques and approaches.  My focus is on helping people overcome problems which prevent them from reaching their full potential in life.

approach to therapy
My style of therapy is caring and supportive.  I believe that I am able to help people develop self confidence and belief in themselves. I really enjoy helping people overcome their unwanted fears.

My approach is represented in a song that I wrote. You can hear this song & read the words with a single click on: "I DESERVE" Go on, you deserve to experience it.

More details about my work are described here:

background

  • My original degree was a Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology & Comparative Physiology from Monash University completed in 1965. I worked as a zoologist for a while.
    • I graduated from the University of Queensland in 1971 with a Master of Science degree about the influence of barbituate drugs on the retention of learning.  Since that time I have had extensive experience working as a clinical psychologist including a period as Senior Psychologist with the Queensland Health Department drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit.
    • I am also a registered secondary school teacher.
    • I have been a professional entertainer, musician and singer. I had my own jazz band for several years in the late 1960's called the "Red Belly Stompers".
    • From 1995 to 2006 I conducted “Singing for Fun and Healing” workshops on the national and international stage.  In these workshops, participants learned how to become more confident with their voice. Our learning included learning how to balance the energy systems of the body and to overcome energy blockages.
    • I am in full time private practice as a clinical, counselling, and consulting and have been since since 1983.
    • I have written the book "Holistic Singing and Toning" (also known as "Singing for Fun and Healing") and also produced several Self Help CDs.
  • One of my specialist areas is that of helping people with voice issues and performance anxiety.

how long does therapy take?
Most therapy takes only a few sessions to get things sorted out. Sometimes when we fix one problem, more underlying issue will come up. You decide when to finish therapy at the point where things are working well enough for your satisfaction.

My original Bachelor of Science degree involved acquiring and extensive knowledge of functional anatomy and physiology.  Many years later, I became a specialist in the area of Neuro-psychology studying the functioning of the human nervous system.
In the 1970’s and 1980’s I studied many forms of body work techniques including remedial massage, polarity therapy, Feldenkreis and the Alexander technique.  In addition I studied various psychoactive techniques such as Psychodrama, Gestalt and Primal therapy.  For one year, I studied Bioenergetic body work with Dr Chris Campbell of Byron Bay.  I also received five years experiential learning in Transpersonal Body Work from Pat Lleiss in Brisbane.
I have used this knowledge and experience of subtle energies, anatomy, psysiology and body work to assist Sharon in both developing and the teaching of Ayurvedic Reflexology.
