Been here before - take me to the questions. OR take me to the NEW site program
This is not your 'standard' I Ching system - you dont toss coins, role dice, throw yarrow sticks, or draw marbles out of a bag. Those systems are based on the combining of two elements randomly; the text of your question with the text of a randomly produced hexagram. This process is creative and gives aspects of a situation that may not have been considered before. However, the depth of the I Ching can also be considered in a more active manner; a causal bias rather than a synchronistic bias.
The method here used is a little 'deeper' than the 'regular' way in that it requires you to think rather than put everything into the lap of the gods, but at the same time it allows for personal biases. The idea is to help you get a better view of a situation based on your own assessments as well as getting someone else to answer the same questions, giving their assessment.
What we do is get you to answer three questions. These give your assessment of the context of a situation. You can then go on with another three questions which will lead you to a specific hexagram, or you can stop, whereupon you are given eight hexagrams, one of which is the archetype of your situation - you determine which one by determining which one 'resonates' the most. (there are links into the full descriptions of the hexagrams.)
The reason for the choice is that the last three questions are linked to the outside ('them') rather than you; so you need to project yourself into a possibly opposing point of view to answer the questions, and for some this is hard to do (unless of course 'they' are on hand to answer the questions themselves). So, by just answering three questions, you allow your intuition to take-over, where perusal of the eight hexagrams leads to one 'resonating' with you.
Another 'feature' is the ability to 'play' by going back and changing answers to see where they lead, and seeing what would happen if you changed your perspective in reality (the questions are a series of links through a binary tree). For example, one question deals with facts and values. You may consider a situation as fact-based. The system allows you to change your perspective to values-based and determine what evolves if you do that.
Overall, this system therefore is a mix, where the random element is met half-way.
So, for the 'quick' system, here we go..
Question 1: Is the situation facts driven or values driven?
When considering your answer, you can use abstract terms like 'objective' for facts and 'subjective' for values. At the same time be wary of possible confusions. For example, for some, 'god' could be considered more of a 'value' than a 'fact'. For others, reality is more an aspect of consciousness (value) rather than something 'out there' (fact). The answer to this question therefore requires careful consideration since the first step 'colours' all that follows- of all of these questions, this is the hardest to answer.
Note that an advanced feature is the ability to customize the questions.
Also note that we can get far 'deeper' than this, where rather then asking questions of "is A or B?", we can take into consideration the process of change, where A is changing into B or B is changing into A; but not here. There is material within this system that explains the various methods one can use; here we try to keep it quick and simple (although it could go on for hours - it is up to you).
