Motivations 04 <--> 07

In the transition from hexagram 04, masking, to hexagram 07, uniforming, the motivation is described by hexagram 08, Uniting. Hexagram 07 in its King Wen pattern manifests the concept of uniformity and so establishing a degree of social order. Hexagram 07 in its Fu Hsi pattern manifests the concept of losing one's identity or losing the ability to express uniqueness.

The ERANOS translation of hexagram 07 is:

"SHIH : troops; an organized unit, a metropolis; leader, general, model, master; organize, make functional; take as a model, imitate. The ideogram: heap and whole, organize confusion into functional units."

The ERANOS translation of the motivational hexagram, 08, is:

"PI : order things and put them in classes, compare and select; find what you belong with; compare, sort, examine correspondances; select and harmonize; unite. The ideogram: person who stops walking, looking around to examine and compare."

In the reverse process, from hexagram 07 to hexagram 04, the motive is hexagram 39 Obstructions or the bypassing of them. In a specific sense the obstructions are linked to a difficulty in walking. Hexagram 04 in its King Wen form manifests the process of socialisation, the motive being to overcome obstructions. Hexagram 04 in its Fu Hsi form manifests over socialisation where this socialisation becomes a problem, the socialisation starts to obstruct.

The ERANOS translation of hexagram 04 is:

"MENG : cover, pull over, hide, conceal; lid or cover; clouded awareness, dull; ignorance, immaturity; unseen beginnings. The ideogram: plant and covered, hidden growth"

The ERANOS translation of the motivational hexagram, 39, is:

"CHIEN : Walk lamely, proceed haltingly; weak-legged, afflicted, crooked; feeble, weak; unfortunate, difficult. The ideogram: foot and cold, impeded circulation in the feet."
