The transition from hexagram 03, difficult beginnings or sproutings, to hexagram 42, augmentation, is motivated by hexagram 32, commitment. Without that commitment the transition will fail.
Hexagram 42 in its King Wen pattern manifests increase, augmentiation and the support of the 'high' for the 'low'. hexagram 42 in its Fu Hsi pattern manifests too much in that the increase never stops when it should. This manifest a motivation of over-commitment, too over the top.
The ERANOS translation of hexagram 42 is:
"YI : increase, advance, promote, benefit, strengthen; pour in more; full, superabundant; restorative. The ideogram: water and a vessel, pouring in more".
The ERANOS translation of the motivational hexagram, 32, is:
"HENG : continue in the same way and spirit; constant perpetual, regular; self-renewing; extend everywhere; the moon almost full"
In the transition from hexagram 42 to hexagram 03 the motivation is hexagram 40. Hexagram 40 manifests loose structuring, maintaining a degree of flexibility, a sudden understanding. This can be expressed in hexagram 03 in a King Wen cooperative pattern of flexibility allowing for a degree of adaptability in overcoming difficulties, or it can be expressed in the Fu Hsi oppositional pattern as being too loose, too structurally unsound and so experiencing difficulties. The overall motivation is to use the augmentation state as a source for new developments, new growth, new understanding.
The ERANOS translation of hexagram 03 is:
"CHUN : begin or cause to grow; assemble, accumulate, bring under control; hoard possessions; establish a military camp; difficult, arduous. The ideogram: sprout piercing hard soil"
The ERANOS translation of the motivational hexagram, 40, is:
"HSIEH : loosen, disjoin, untie, sever, scatter; analyse, explain, understand; release, dispel sorrow; eliminate effects, solve problems; resolution, deliverance. The ideogram: horns and knife, cutting into forward thrust."
