Flora resources

For identification and other basic information on plants in the area, the best place to look first is in "Schrader":
The Flora and Fauna of the Parkes Shire edited by Neville Schrader. Parkes Naturalist Group, 1987. 87pp. ISBN 073161285X
For details the best reference book (at a price to match) is:
G.M. Cunningham, W.E. Mulham, P.L. Milthorpe & J.H. Leigh. Plants of Western New South Wales.
North Ryde: Butterworth-Heinemann, c. 1992; 766pp.
Earlier edition: [Sydney] : N.S.W. Govt. Print. Office in association with the Soil Conservation Service of N.S.W., 1981. 766pp. ISBN 0724020039
* This text provides a comprehensive collation of the plants of the semi-arid and arid areas of the western division of NSW. Beginning with an overview of environmental and ecological conditions in the western division, it moves to a detailed description of each species, its distribution and habitat. Extensively illustrated.
* Very good guide with short descriptions and colour plates of most species; glossary; no keys. A little dated but still very useful.
$185.00 from NSW DLWC Publications For Sale - Trees, Plants and Shrubs
For more recent and helpful information on native trees, "Costerman" is a good source:

First pub. 1981. Revised ed. 1983. Adelaide : Rigby.

1992 printing of 1983 edition has an addendum listing the main changes to names, pp.423-4.
* Lots of colour plates of significant woody species, with helpful line illustrations of diagnostic features and distributions.
