An Amazing Week of WYD 08

WELCOME TO ALL BISHOPS, PRIESTS, SISTERS AND PILGRIMS

Dear Parishioners,
Finally the WYD has arrived. The theme, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses" is so appropriate for our nation. There are few places left in the world that can capture the imagination of young people and Sydney is one of those cities. Thousands of pilgrims will be here to share the one Faith. The atmosphere is going to be incredible and awe-inspiring, as we are united in one desire to express our Christian Faith. This gathering of Pilgrims from all over the world shows that despite the problems of our modern society, there is still Hope, there is still Faith and there is still another generation of young Catholics ready to step up to the mark and continue their religion into the 21st century. Be sure to enjoy the events of WYD08 and may God be with you all.
Fr Phillips

DID YOU KNOW?

•  A parable is a simple human story with a profound meaning

•  Parables were a familiar way of teaching in the time of Jesus and some images had set meanings. For example, a vineyard, sons or servants represented Israel, while a master, king or father represented

•  God. Chapter 13 of Matthew's Gospel contains numerous parables describing the kingdom of heaven.

•  The Sea of Galilee is also known as Lake Gennesaret. Jesus' base for his preaching ministry in the region was at the town of Capernaum on the shores of the lake. Peter had a house in this town.
