Goongerah Gathering

The people at GECO organized the Goongerah gathering last weekend out in the East Gippland forest. Hundreds of eco activists and trippers and dance-heads came along.Although there were workshops held throughout the weekend and the bush hikes were popular, most of the people seemed to be there for the party, go deep into a beautiful natural setting and blast it for 3days with non stop noise.
Anyways amongs the Doof doof and trip-hop and vibey stuff, Saturday night was punk-rock. First up The Bigots from Canberra, recently back from a tour of Europe, stripped back down to a guitar drum duo, they were loud enough and energetic enough to get the crowd onto their feet. Tim the vocalist is pretty sarcastic in tone and one of their songs "Gooongerah Drinkers" was a sharp dig at the hippy types that hang around the forest.
Next up was Iron Sausage from Sydney, well only half a band, crust with just vocals and drums? din't work too well, although the singer was going orf.
CCCP Chris, Callum, Chris and Paul were a side project from Mutiny playing covers with Chris's vocals giving them a sort of Subhumans/Citizen Fish sound. One standout was "Punks with Guns" by Radical Dance Faction, pinky reggae with a very menacing lyric, not the peaceful message of the non violent blockaders.
Deconsume were a full blast of crust with male/female vocals, setting up a slam in the dust bowl at the front of stage.
Nick Larkins ex Velvet hammer/Wild Pumpkins snag Bob Dylan stream of conciousness lyrics over loud guitar and simple drum machine rhythms, at one time using a vocal eefect that made him sound like Mickey Mouse.
Some friends had been raving about Pan so I stayed around and saw something very spooky. The band was ambient trip hop slow groove andafter their first song, they said "everyone stand up and shake your groove thing" and like a scene from a horror movie a hundred or so stoned, tripped E'd dance heads ot up and just sort of shuffled like a pack of restless zombies, very scarey.
