Deadstare at Pink Palace
New Years Eve at the deserted factory site in Port Melbourne.
The big AKA Free party out in the bush had been cancelled because of the rain over the last couple of days so everything was moved to the industrial waste land of Port Melbourne.
Because there were five different sound systems to set up, things weren't quite ready to go at nine as the organisers had hoped and the punk stage didn't fire up until right on midnight, making it not the last gig of 2002 but the first of 2003.
Söberphobe came on in their full metal warrior getup to give us their crusty blast, James guitar solos were a little bit cramped by the drunks falling over at the front of the stage and some of the crowd were a bit distracted by the fioreworks going off in the city skyline.
After wandering around trying to find something even remotely listenable in any of the techno zones, it was back to the back room for Mutiny, who played fully in the party mood, a set full of rowdy dance numbers like 'William Jones' 'Police Strike Riot' 'Drink to Better days' and a song they dedicated to Food not Bombs.
Schifosi had a smaller but equally wild crowd crushed up the front, leaving singer Kate with not much room to prowl around.

Plea of Insanity
Friday night at the Arthouse a big show with bands from the all-ages posi crew representing.
Combining talent from George W Bush and Adelaides St Albans kins Macguyver [Taxidriver] played almost jazz freestyle with a drum solo and all, the singer just hummimg along and whistling his microphone feedback.
Terror Firma playing their last show in thier present line-up as Tom is moving on, were wicked and Jacs was screaming her lungs out.
I think the next act was Banzai Kids from Woolongong, two young ladies rolling about the stage, with backing tape and some casio keyboard sounds, wild edgey.

Plea of Insanity
Plea of Insanity also annouced they were playing their last shows, although Chris and Emily are going to continue with a new hardcore band. As part of the evenings entertainment PoI had distrbuted flyers with a animal named on the back and at the start of their set they wanted people to imitate their designated animal, looking pretty ridiculous in the furious mosh pit.
Also taking a break for a month or so while Dave and Max go overseas, far left limit brought out some of their old material like 'Flag Tag' from their early demo, blasting their way through a very short set.
Throwdown at Shantytown

State of Mind
How can you keep a band going if you only play two or three times a year, State of Mind seem to manage with energy and enthusiasm, going out to play support whenever a name band plays an all-ages show such as Throwdown at Shantytown.

State of Mind
Dying Breed mix a rather off hand sarcastic stage manner with a serious approach to the cliches of political punk.
Throwdown were also serious about their politics, xst8edgex, posi punk, with song about 'straight for life', 'loyalty' and such topics.
