Here's a review of the movie
written by Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx as published on the
Metal
Masters website:
"Sometimes the suits try to capture
something legit and it comes off corporate. Sometimes something
worse happens. This is the case in point.
Maybe because I've lived, breathed and died rock n' roll, I've
seen the hard white underbelly of the beast and lived to
tell. This movie made me cringe. Yes, there's the cheese whiz in
metal (Poisons, Warrants, Trixters, etc.), but it was a flash and
an attempt to cash in on real gutter stylized rock n' roll. This
movie seems to of clung onto that spoiled cheddar and milked it to
near death. There's nothing believable about this movie's
storyline. It's not cute, funny or dramatic.
Now, maybe, I'm being hard on it cause I'm in production for "THE
DIRT," but I'll admit, I have used this movie as a template for
what a rock n' roll story should not be! I would hope that the
stylist for Steel Dragon is hanging somewhere while kids playing
New York Dolls, Iggy and Stooges CDs dance around chanting...DIE
JANI LANE, DIE
Marky Mark as a rock star? ...And Jennifer Aniston as the
girlfriend? She doesn't look like she swallows, much less be
believable in her part!
Damn, if I had known this movie was gonna suck harder than
Slaughter's career, I wouldn't have let them use one of our songs
in it. Well, I'll take the money and hide out in shame same as
Marky Mark and that ugly Friends' chick should do."

2006 - Documentary - Rated: R - Starring: Vince Neil, Slayer, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister's Dee Snider, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, and Motorhead's Lemmy.
Sam Dunn is a 30-year old anthropologist who wrote his graduate thesis on the plight of Guatemalan refugees. Recently he has decided to study the plight of a different culture, one he has been a part of since he was a 12-year old: the culture of heavy metal. Sam sets out on a global journey to find out why this music has been consistently stereotyped, dismissed and condemned and yet is loved so passionately by its millions of fans. Along the way, Sam explores metals' obsession with some of life's most provacative subjects - sexuality, religion, violence and death - and discovers some things about the culture that even he can't defend. Shot on location in the UK, Germany, Norway, Canada and the US, this documentary is the first of its kind. It is both a defense of a long-misunderstood art form and a window for the outsider into the spectacle that is heavy metal.
