My Holiday at Tapio

I went to Tapio in April 1999 ... and stayed with Patricia and her dogs: Bobby, Betty, Jade and Whisper.  This is an extremely comfortable guesthouse where dogs are made very very welcome.  That's why we went back with another couple and their dog, a Cavalier Kings Charles Spaniel in September 2000.

In summer, Patricia told us, dogs can go swimming nearby but we arrived the day winter started in NSW and, let me tell you, cold weather temperatures in Oberon, Lithgow and the Bathurst-Orange District are always colder than in Sydney.  I'm very glad Tapio welcomes dogs inside in the bedrooms ... good, well-behaved dogs only, of course.

In winter, you can go walking at Hill End, climb Mt Panorama in Bathurst (where the car races are held) and go to the Zig Zag Railway.

You can find out more by contacting the Blue Mountains and Lithgow Tourist Authorities and you can e-mail Patricia with your booking or inquiries.

And now Tapio even has it's own homepage!

Mt Panorama is the place for Motor Racing!

Me at Mt Panorama

I am a Holden Dog!

I have been a Toyota Dog, a Mitsubishi Dog and a Ford Dog in the past - even ridden in a Peugeot.

Hill End, past Bathurst and Sofala

Hill End was a gold mining town in the rushes of the 1860s.  In the 1930s and 40s artists like Russell Drydsdale came here to paint. Now it is sleepy country town and there are walks through the old slag piles but beware of old shafts ... they are not all covered and all dogs (not to mention young children) should be leashed.

... but look closer ... it was the warning sign about the shafts that confirmed that you can walk your dog here - with all due care of course.  See the last line about staying on the track and supervising pets ...

The Zig Zag Railway, Lithgow

The Zig Zag Railway is dog-friendly enough to have a special dog ticket!

Dogs ride in the guard's carriage on the steam trains.  The rail motors run as well as the steam trains on busy days and usually on quiet days.  My pack are members and this photo was taking on a weekday so don't expect to sit in the driver's cab like me but you can still have a great day!  There are bush walks from Bottom Points and great sniffs around the sheds!

I was exhausted after my holiday.
