My Goal in Life This page is the gateway to a whole new half of the site concerning itself with dog-friendly places. Need Orientation? Check the Site Map My major goal in life is to achieve more dog-off-leash areas in Sydney so we dont have to drive so far to get a bit of exercise. I am also interested in further afield since I do like to go on holiday! Way back in June 1998 & June 1999, I wrote to all the Sydney Councils, several of the coastal councils and some of the mountain country councils, and built up an official picture of canine facilities in open space. In January 2001, I either e-mailed or snail-mailed all the Sydney Councils and even more country councils than ever before ... except where the information was already on their website - then I sent a congratulatory e-mail! Where the Councils mention their dog-parks, I've hyperlinked direct to that page where possible - these you may be sure are up-to-date.
As you'll see in the following pages - there is a vast difference between Councils in terms of their thinking on dogs - though many have improved amazingly since the Companion Animals Act forced some focus on the needs of dogs and dog owners. A few of these Councils still really need to digest the information in my favourite article! They need to understand that they cant just ban dogs off-leash everywhere and expect it to work unless they give people a place to take their dogs where they can be exercised off-leash! The Companion Animals Act (which all Animal Owners should read) actually requires all Local Government Areas to have at least one off-leash area available at all times. So without further ado ... AND READY TO PICK UP ANY POO ... LET'S GO TO THE PARK - Click on the Dog Tidy Bin!
Dogs have shared human lives for thousands of years. With responsible ownership we share mutual love and respect. In recognising the activities our dogs enjoy, their need to remain fit and healthy and to enjoy the companionship of their own species as well as ours, and in ensuring that they are properly trained and socialised as responsible canine citizens, both their lives and ours are enriched.
