Off-Leash Dog Parks of Australia

Obviously the parks outside my own state of New South Wales will never be comprehensive but when I hear of good dog parks outside NSW, I'll list them here!  For parks in Sydney and the state of NSW check the icons on the left ...

Now, I do know ...

Melbourne (the capital of the state of Victoria) has Gasworks Park and a dog-beach.

So does Western Australia – Brighton Beach.

When I first started doing this page in 1998, Brisbane had a specially designed dog-park called Powerhouse Park with special bubblers and everything!  Now Brisbane has lots and lots of dog parks!  Check out the Brisbane City Council website - for their list of dog parks.  I went to Bribie Island on my recent trip to Queensland which can find via My Holidays.

Dog-e-data also has some off-leash areas listed.

Here are some pictures of the Gold Coast Dog-Friendly (albeit leashed) Beaches taken by a camera-shy friend ...

The information in these pages comes directly from the councils concerned, however, it can only be considered current on the day it is written.  Always, always look for the signs in every park you visit.  If the rules have changed, these signs take precedence over anything written in this site.  If you do discover changes, please e-bark me immediately!

Just a final few words ...

Always remember that even in off-leash areas all dogs must still be under effective control and must not leave any deposits.  Please make sure that your dog - especially your puppy - is fully up-to-date with all their vaccinations before going to any parks.  Our friend Leelou, the Rottweiler, contracted Parvo Virus as a puppy shortly after a park visit - though, of course, she could have picked it up anywhere.  She has recovered brilliantly but not every puppy is so lucky.  Ticks are also becoming more common in the  Sydney Metropolitan Area.  Please ask your vet for advice.
