About Me and My Packs (Yes, PackS - plural)

My Name is Schultz.

Yes, I was named after the Sergeant Schultz character in Hogan’s Heroes.

And all because one day, when I was very little, I had a small accident on the bed and lay on it so nobody would see …

And I used to be very very little indeed ... long long ago ...

I have lots of nicknames like:

‘The Croc’ because of the way I swim (and because I was a bit toothy as a puppy) and

'Splaw-Paw' because I never notice if I'm standing on somebody's foot, and

'Snooze-hound' because I love those human beds, and

‘Mega’ because I got so big so fast.  I weigh anywhere between 45 kg (100 lbs) and 52 kg depending on if I've been pigging out ... but I am trying to get to 45 kg and stay there because that is about right for me.

As a bona fide mutt, I have such a mixed up ancestry that it’s a bit hard to guess what weight I really should be - I seem to be much more solid than the obvious dogs in my ancestry.

What dogs do you think are giving me my looks?

Let me add a few things that photos don’t show too well ...

When I was a puppy I chased my tail though I don’t do that very often now.  When I notice something all-of-a-sudden like a kookaburra – I point.  I never grew out of lying down ‘puppy-legs’ with my back legs flat on the floor (butterfly style) – not on my haunches.

I got my own e-mail address by accident.   About six years ago when my main pack-people were Newbies, one of them made a mistake signing up and thought they were entering a keyword when they were really choosing the address!  How silly!

They could have changed the address, of course, but they decided to let me have my own homepage instead and I am glad they did.

I have two packs because I used to be a time-share dog.

Once upon a Christmas-time, I was an abandoned puppy.  Luckily this didn’t last very long and I found myself not one, but two, new families jolly quick smart.  I was a bit of a surprise; none of them were planning to get a dog just then even though three out of four of them had grown up with dogs.  They actually contemplated taking me to the RSPCA for a few days - till two things happened.

Firstly, obviously, they couldn’t resist me!

Secondly, the RSPCA started their January campaign: blitz-advertising about how they were putting down 200 unwanted dogs every day - even pure-breds - and would people please not give animals as Christmas presents - especially surprise Christmas presents.

I hope all those stupid, stupid, stupid, selfish, cruel and heartless ‘inhumans’ will one day finally get that message rammed through their thick skulls.

Anyway, my new families were not going to send a soon-to-be-mega ‘lotsa’ like me away. So I stayed and became a canine baby substitute for two couples called Kate and Blake and Lisa and Patrick.  Come to think of it, I really know how to fall on my paws!

At the beginning they thought being a time-share puppy might confuse me so they went shopping together and bought identical sets of bowls and toys. I showed them! I made certain toys my favourites at one house and other toys my favourites at the other house.

After that they gave up insulting my intelligence.

At Lisa and Patrick's house there was always a cat called Sidney who taught me how to wash my face properly for the whole week that he was bigger than me.  Sidney has now crossed the rainbow bridge.  I sort-of used to spend about a week at each house. Then Lisa and Patrick moved house so I have stayed with Kate and Blake ever since.  Then Lisa and Patrick got another cat - called Diggler.  Diggler and I get on well now but I miss Sidney ... I still look for him every time we visit.
