STILL MORE
"Block Out", top left, was begun in a class with Lessa Siegle at the Hawkesbury Quilt Camp. It was cut out template free and pieced diagonally. "The Secret Garden", top right, was made as a "Challenge" project for Queensland Quilters. The challenge rules required that 30% of the quilt top be made from the fabric used as the background to the flowers. The "Challenge" quilts were first displayed at Logan Art Gallery followed by a tour of Queensland and the Northern Territory. "Bow Ties for Bill Dobell", bottom left, was made for Australian artist, the late Sir William Dobell's bed at Dobell House, Wangi Wangi, NSW. The house is maintained as a Museum of Memorabillia by local residents. The quilt was used as the background to catalogues and invitations to a quilt exhibition by invited quilt artists at the Lake Macquarie Art Gallery and hung at the entrance to the exhibition hall. Bow ties were chosen for the quilt because Dobell always wore them and tartan fabrics because he invariably wore plaid shirts when painting. It was made to replace his original bed cover which disintigrated with age. "Crackerjack", bottom right, was made from the traditional "Jack in the Box" pattern. Hand dyed fabrics shaded from pink to mauve feature in it. |
