"Helios Starts Another Day", top left, was made for Queensland Quilters major show, Quilt-O-Rama. Entered in the "Sunshine" challenge category, it won second prize. Helios was an ancient Greek God who drove his fiery golden chariot drawn by powerful black horses across the sky each day making the sun. Each night, a silver cup rose from the sea and horses, chariot and Helios all jumped in and were carried back to home base ready to start again next day. The photograph on the right shows former President, Ruth Fleming, presenting me with the prize. I'm on the right wearing my patchwork skirt, "Aurora Australis" which I designed and made. "Nebula" bottom left is a variation on the "Friendship Star" with the blocks sharing the corners. It is also one of my favourite styles, a colourwash. Another treatment of the "Friendship Star" used in "Out of the blue" on the first page. "Blossoms, Birds and Butterflies" bottom right is a machine embroidered quilt. The embroideries were designed and digitised for machine embroidery by my husband, George. I designed and made the quilt. |
