My Family

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and include some information about my family.

I'll have to check with them, but in the meantime I can tell you about my grandfather, William Henry Collins (my dad's father), after whom I am named.

Grandpa was born in 1889, was a medical officer in WW1, and received
a Distinguished Service Order (DSO) for heroism in 1917 in Belgium.

I have a whole range of stuff about grandpa, and have included a lot of pictures
and historical information in my 'Grandpa pages'.

During his time in WW1, Grandpa obtained a rather interesting panoramic photograph
of the Allied front line ("Western Front") during the Battle of Passchendaele, taken on 24 October 1917.

I loaned the 4.1 metre-long photo to the Australian War Memorial (AWM), and it was
copied for their archives. It is available on the AWM web site as a resource for historical purposes.
