About us (well, mainly about me)

Hi, I'm Allan Gardyne. I live with my wife, Joanna, at Golden Beach, north of Brisbane, in sub-tropical Queensland, Australia.

After 10 years of being misdiagnosed, in 1994 we worked out what was wrong with me after one of my sisters was told she was had coeliac disease. A gastroenterologist did a biopsy of my small intestine, and gave me the internal video showing what I look like inside. I'm not saying I'm squeamish, but I've watched it only once.

My so-called "eczema" cleared up a few months after I went on a gluten-free diet. For the next year or so the rash kept popping up again every few months, so I suspect I was occasionally eating some food flavouring or something that contains gluten. But I've had no sign of the rash lately.

I've had a bit of a rough time with my health lately. I developed a rare blood disorder, aplastic anaemia, and needed to have a bone marrow transplant late in 2003. I've recovered well from that but still have a few minor effects from it.

I love tinkering with new recipes but Joanna is usually the cook. For about six years her job included looking after the weekly recipe pages of the Fraser Coast Chronicle. She compiled eight Wise Buys recipe books, all published by the Chronicle.

Have you a favourite gluten-free recipe you would like to share? I'd love to hear from you.

I've tried to make this site useful and helpful for coeliacs. If you like the site and would like to help, here are some ways you can help.

If you like one of my recipes, feel free to pass it on to a friend.

These days, Joanna and I usually spend much of our time on an Internet business I founded, AssociatePrograms.com
