It must be noted that the Hieroglyphics mentioned here are believed now to be the work of an 'elderly yugoslavian gentleman' caught in the act by Gosford Park Rangers in the early '80s. Shame no one bothered to mention this to the writer of the original 'article' that sparked this page in the first place, when the writer claimed investigation of the locals in Gosford as part of the 'article' research. I am keeping this page as is, as a sort of time capsule; the site, after all, does exist, promotes fascinating discussion, and is a jolly nice day out, if only the amateur fortune idiots would stop digging the place up. The fact that these glyphs are not necessarily of ancient origin does not detract from the notion, or the existence of any other artifacts, that suggest ancient man was blundering around uncharted waters.

There is approx 2 hrs drive North of Sydney, a rocky outcrop that contains c. 250 Egyptian hieroglyphics, etched into 2 opposing wall surfaces.

The article that got my interest in the first place HERE by Paul White is an extract from "exposure" magazine, Vol 2 No.6, 1996, as I understand, printed in Australia.

Paul White has since distanced himself from his article, suggesting the glyphs are the work of UNI students in the 80's - but I have left it here as something of a guide to the level of interest this site has generated.

*Comment by Dr Gilbert, whom I found at http://www.zeta.org.au/~ptahotep/egypt/email.html who makes a detailed appraisal in favour of the Gosford Glyphs being fakes.

The carvings have apparently been part of the local folklore of the area for nearly a century with reports of people who sighted them as far back as the early 1900's.

An Egyptologist Ray Johnson, a translator for the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo, has translated what is described as an Archaic, & until recently, little known & early dynastic style, from the 3rd Dynasty, as described in the Article. "The hieroglyphic writing is in the most ancient style of the Egyptians, with many of the glyphs and pictograms bearing a striking resemblance to early Phoenician and Sumerian forms."

A hand made glass amulet, in a stretched pyramid shape with Egyptian characters on the four sides, was found outside the northern NSW town of Kyogle in 1983. It was dated by the Department of Mines at 5,000 years old. (Extract from "Astral" magazine, Vol 1, No.4, 1997)

The Article itself contains presumptions which I ignore - & could bias the argument against proper investigation. The only claim I make is that 'glyphs' are there to be seen.

In my own opinion, ... I don't have one. Nothing would surprise me less than Ancient Man blundering around uncharted waters. The cave findings are either an extraodinary attempt at a fake, & on a fairly large scale, or an extraordinary find. In any event, haphazard presumption is not good enough - to solve what could be a relatively simple problem of confirmation one only needs to be properly curious, ask the right questions.
WITHOUT THE BIAS OF CONVENTIONAL HISTORICAL PRECEDENT

I have since been to the Rock Carvings twice, & most are in excellent condition, & lie in dense scrub approx. 2 K from the nearest main road. Access is via Fire Trail.
To my eye, the two wall faces seem composed by different hands; which means nothing, but there you are. The west wall reliefs seem shallower, & more delicate. There are no sharp edges left to the glyphs, if one presumes they might have originally looked anything like those sharp angular cuttings one sees on documentaries of Egypt.
Or as I saw for myself when I went there. But then again the wall surfaces here are not exactly flat, either.

The carvings themselves are pretty uniform in depth & cut, except for the two or three that don't look like they belong anyway.
I should also say that the local area is a font of unusual aboriginal rock carvings as well.
