my father Mick was born in Peebles in 1944, though his parents were Polish Immigrants during WWII.
My great-great grandmother, a Christina Lavinia Hazlemere (as she called herself on her wedding certificate) or Christina Wark (which was on her birth certificate was born December 23 1860 in a place called East Benhar in West Lothian and emigrated to Australia with her half-sister Jeannie, who was also recorded as born in Linlithgowshire (i.e. West Lothian) and relative Nellie Hazlemere. Christina gave her parents were an Alexander Hazlemere and Lina Selkirk (though Andrew Wark, a coalminer, and Isabella Dick are on her birth certificate). Christina was described by one who knew her as a 'bit of a card' (as in rather eccentric).
My great-great grandfather, Wallace Alexander Nelson (b.29/4/1856 in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire) was living in Sheffield with his wife & young family when he feared he had consumption, and his physician ordered him to move to a warmer climate. He did so, emigrating in early 1888 to sunny Queensland. His wife Annie and the 4 children emigrated to Australia aboard the Dacca, which left the UK on 26th of June 1889 and arrived in Brisbane on 14th of August 1889.
Annie Nelson's mother, Angusina McLennan came from a farm or village called Strath of Auchterflow, just outside Avoch on the Black Isle in Ross & Cromarty.
