27 August 2004 715pm Sydney time.
The period of this challenge and the
time to register to participate
has expired.
Any person wanting details of
the challenge can contact me
through the web page or cadwest1@ozemail.com.au
To those who participated thank
you. Keep watching for the summary.
The time has come the Walrus said……
Open to
users of Autodesk’s Inventor software.
Create 3D models of my Block_B and Handwheel components, using only raw
Inventor*, faster than I can create AutoCAD solids of the same
components, and I will pay the FIRST (and only the first) person to do
so $1500.00 ($Aus.).
There are two 3D models that must be drawn to claim the payment being
offered. Outlined below are the conditions that must be met to
claim the payment.
The process explained. Any person that chooses to take up this
challenge will first model the Block_B
component and if this is
successfully accomplished will be ask to model the second component,
the Handwheel. In both cases it will be
necessary for the
participant to use the profiles provided; importing the profiles into
Inventor then finishing the 3D model with which ever method you
choose. As this challenge is about providing me with information
about 3D model creation times the importation of the profiles provided
will ensure a consistency in comparing the time taken for each model
done by the challenger and the times I take to create the same model
using different tools.
The FIRST participant to model (and have verified for or by me) both of
these components more quickly and with less commands, than I can create
the same components as AutoCAD solids, will have successfully provided
me with the new information previously unavailable to me.
To be eligible to claim this payment for information the following
conditions must also be met;
- Any person wanting
to claim the payment being
offered must first email their intentions to attempt my tasks. When you
do I will supply via email a non-disclosure document that you will need
to print, fill out some details, sign and return via facsimile.
- Having received the
signed non-disclosure document
I will return via email two (2) documents. One, a dimensioned
detail drawing of the first component to be modelled, in .PDF
format. The second an AutoCAD 2000 drawing of the profile
outlines of the component that must be imported into Inventor in
preference to having to re-draught these shapes. The transmittal
date of this return email is the start of the time limit to complete
both models.
- The information
required for the second component
will be provided only after the receipt of the .ipt file of the first
component and details relating to the time taken to create the file.
- As this is an
information based task we reserve the
right to request that any time claimed can be verified. Those in
the Sydney, Australia area will be required to repeat their
construction of the model in our office using our Inventor**
software. The participant can have a single witness present for
this verification***.
- For those that this
is not possible, the first step
will be to email the .ipt files of the component with full details
relating to the time and methods used to create the file. Once
this has been received I will decided if any further information is
required and if I do the challenger will be requested to provide
verification in the form of a video and a signed statuary declaration
witnessed by an appropriately qualified person*** who witnessed the
entire process and is prepared to ensure the software used conformed to
our requirements and all our other conditions have been met. In
addition we reserve the right to request any further information we
require to ensure all the conditions of the challenge have been
followed and the timing provided is correct and accurate.
- The software used
for this challenge can be any
appropriate version of Autodesk’s Inventor* but it must not have any
modifications installed that in any way changes the functions of
Inventor that may be used to complete this challenge. Also it is
the Inventor component of Autodesk’s Inventor series software that it
to be used for these tasks challenge. With the exception of the
AutoCAD files supplied containing the components outline profiles
neither AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical or Mechanical Desktop are to be
used in any way to assist the participant in the completion of these
models.
- The challenger must
be the licensed owner of the
Inventor software used for the challenge or be able to provide proof of
permission of the licence holder granting the challenger the right to
use their software for this challenge.
- Both tasks must be
completed no later than fourteen
(14) days after the date of my return email containing the first
drawings as attachments and an acceptance of your challenge. Once
the fourteen days has past any person who has already challenged can
request, via email, for an additional fourteen (14) days. Only
one extension of time will be considered and or granted.
- The current offer
of $150.00, to do this task is
being withdrawn and replaced by the newer offer outlined in this
document.
- This challenge is
being offered for a limited two
week period of time only. All requests to participate are to be
received by me, by email no earlier than 13th August 2004 nor later
than 5:00pm (Sydney time) 27th August 2004.
- This is not a
competition. Each individual
submitting model files is providing me information relating to the time
and methods it takes to model these components. In addition I am
not asking for your first attempt, what I am asking for is your fastest
(and repeatable) time and method.
- All the data and
material supplied by participants
becomes the property of cadWest to use as we see fit and for any
purpose we choose. At no stage will the names or contact details
of any participant or organisations, be published or supplied to any
person or party outside of cadWest.
- *All attempting
these tasks must do so using
Autodesk’s Inventor** software in its ‘raw out of the box’ commercially
supplied form. Absolutely no modifications (created by the user,
any other person or software company) to the software can be used when
doing these models. No version of Inventor that has not been released
and already been shipping to users for at least three months and to all
markets, or a later version of Inventor than I have can be used for
this challenge.
- **I currently have
installed Autodesk’s Inventor
Series 8 & 9, and it is these versions that will be used to read
the supplied .ipt files. (This condition may change if another Inventor
Series version becomes available during the duration of this
invitation).
- ***This invitation
is open to users of Autodesk’s
Inventor with the exception of users who are employed in any way with
any software developer, Autodesk in any and all forms, any member of
Autodesk’s dealer/marketing/sales or technical staff or network or any
person who is directly engaged in developing or assisting in the
development of those companies’ products. These conditions also apply
to any person assisting, observing or witness of the challengers
efforts.
- All participants
are comparing their speed at
creating Inventor 3D models in direct comparison to me creating AutoCAD
solids using both AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop in unison.
- I reserve the right
to accept or refuse any
participant and have the final say as to whether or not information
submitted conforms to my conditions and is accepted or not.
Absolutely no discussions will be entered into relating to these terms
and conditions.
