Thomas Kidner / Elizabeth Birkitt
Thomas Kidner Jnr was born in 1795 on Norfolk Island. He arrived in Van Diemens Land with his father in 1807,
sailing from Port Jackson on the 'Lady Nelson'. In 1817 Thomas sailed on the 'Spring' and the 'Jupiter' for
whaling voyages.
Elizabeth Birkitt (Burkett) was born in 1800/01. She was convicted at Nottingham Quarter Sessions in 1819 and
sentenced to 7 years transportation for larceny - appears in a book “Notorious Strumpets and Dangerous Girls”.
She arrived in Tasmania on the ‘Morley’ in 1820 and in a muster of that year was assigned to Larsom, Hobart Town,
most likely being Richard Larsom, son on Ann Brooks, who arrived in Van Diemen’s land a year or so before Ann's
death in 1813. Richard had also married Thomas' sister Ann in 1812.
Elizabeth was granted a Free Certificate in 1831. She died in 1861 - Thomas in 1883.
Thomas and Elizabeth married in Jan 1822 and lived
in Sorell. They had 7 children.
Thomas obtained a ferry licence in 1824 which allowed
him to operate between Bluff Point and Pittwater.
