Joseph Holland was born in Pyrton, Oxfordshire, and was a publican.
Prior to their marriage in 1824 Sarah was a timber dealer at Winkfield, Berkshire. The 1851 census records her age as 50 and born at Shalford, Essex. With Joseph & Sarah's eldest daughter being called Sophia, could she have been the daughter of James GIFFIN/Sophia PRIOR bap. 1804 at Albury, near Standon, Hertfordshire?
(Several other Sarah Giffins/Griffins were born around that time and in that area of Essex/Hertfordshire).

Not only did Joseph & Sarah's son James (who married Hannah DAY) emigrate to Australia, others from this ancestral branch did the same, including members of the NEIGHBOUR and FREWIN families.
Hannah Day's sister Prudence married a Thomas Neighbour (b.1834). If he were in any way related to Hannah Neighbour (Joseph Holland's mother) is not known.
