COVERDALE / LAVARACK Ancestry
Joel and his father before him were sextons at Cottingham's St. Mary's church (this family position also handed down to Joel's eldest son Henry).
Ann's birthdate of 1798 is based on her burial record - aged 33 in 1831.
However, could she have been Mary Gennings' daughter, born at South Cave in 1800
(father named as Thomas Lavarack) - no other nearby (East Yorkshire) baptism records found.
These families had their origins not only around Cottingham, but also around nearby Beverley (East Yorkshire).
William COVERDALE (1753-1834)    +    Mary LUCCOCK (1750-1831)
William was born and died in Cottingham, where he and Mary married in 1780. William's burial record indicates he was the parish sexton.
Mary's ancestry is unclear. Was she the daughter of ..
- James LUCCOCK & Mary TAYLER - married at Beverley in 1747. A Mary LUCCOCK was born in 1750 -
however, a burial record exists for Mary/father James later in the same year, so probably the same child.
- John LAYCOCK & Alice JOHNSON - married at Hull in 1752 (and York on same day in 1751 ?).
Mary LUCCOCK (father John) born 1755 in Beverley. Other children born in Beverley with father John were Christopher LOWCOCK and Jane LUCCOCK.
However, Mary's burial in 1831 shows she was 80 years old - too far off the mark ?
- William LUCCOCK from Hull - daughter Mary baptised in Hull in 1752, which is a good match to Mary's burial record.
Henry COVERDALE (1705-1776)    +    Sarah GOODYEAR (1717- )
Henry was born at Bubwith (East Yorkshire) and Sarah at Bishop Burton (near Beverley), where they married.
Their children were all born in Cottingham, where they were both buried.
