Joel COVERDALE / Ann LAVARACK
(1793-1863) (1800-1831 )
Joel and his father before him were sextons at Cottingham's St. Mary's church. This family position was handed down to his eldest son Henry.
Ann's birthdate of 1798 is based on her burial record - aged 33 in 1831.
However, could she have been Mary Gennings' daughter, born at South Cave in 1800
(father named as Thomas Lavarack) - no other nearby (East Yorkshire) baptism records found.

| 1841 | Census | Joel (45) | Broad Ln, Cottingham | Sexton |   |
| 1851 | Census | Joel (57) | Crescent St, Cottingham | Sexton - Ag Labourer |   |
| 1861 | Census | Joel (67) | King St, Cottingham | Parish Sexton |   |
By 1863 Henry and Celia had already had 7 children.
Joel died in this year and Henry was to become Sexton at Cottingham St Mary's - maybe taking over this church position prompted their marriage?
Jesobell A was recorded in 1851 census as Joel's grand-daughter and
Henry/Celia were also living with Joel at the time.
But was she the daughter of Henry/Celia ?? (see Maryanne's details for more thoughts).
Maryanne was born and baptised in Cottingham, where she married David Parker in 1850.
In 1849 an Ann Coverdale was baptised at St.Paul's, Sculcoates - mother Mary Ann Coverdale.
Joel's 1851 census record includes a grand-daughter, Jesobell (or Isobell) A, aged 2, born at Sculcoates Union (Workhouse?) - could 'A' be for Ann?
And in Henry's 1861 census record a 12 year old Ann Coverdale (neice) was living with them. Could this have been an illegitimate daughter of Maryanne?
In 1851 the couple were living at Goxhill, Lincolnshire, where David was born. David was then an agricultural labourer and Maryanne a dressmaker.
They possibly both died in 1854 - a David Parker was buried at Goxhill on 6 January, and a Mary Ann Parker was buried there on 4 December.
