Ancestral Lineage of Herbert Vernon PUCKLE

It appears that there are several distinct Puckle lines, centered around Norfolk and Kent.
The Kent Puckle line begins with Vincent Puckle, a butcher and freeman of Lydd in 1573. His son Robert, also a butcher, was a jurat (present day J.P.) in Lydd. Many of the 'Johns' were graziers (some at Brookland) - several were also church wardens at Icklesham, Sussex, in the early 1700s.
Robert (b.1758) married Isabella Nucella in 1786 - he was a draper in Cornhill, London, and the couple lived in Camberwell in a house built by Sir Christopher Wren (demolished in 1851).
The Reverend Edward Cannington Puckle married Elizabeth Smith in 1830 - her family were from Nottingham and were involved in lace manufacturing.
The Smith (George)/Kidner branch includes our convict links - Grace Morrisby's father (James), Thomas Kidner (b.1764), Jane Whiting and Elizabeth Birkitt were all given free passage, courtesy of His Majesty. They spent time on Norfolk Island before settling in Tasmania.
The Morrisby line has its' origins in Kippax, Yorkshire, whereas the Kidner line was from North Petherton, Somerset.

John Sergeant, a shoemaker, married Mary White in Liverpool - she was born in Cumberland.
Mary Catherine emigrated in 1860 and married John Crompton Tindale in 1861 at Mudgee, NSW. John was a shop assistant, but ran the Court House Hotel for a while in the 1870s.
