THE MOJOS are one of the most stylishly diverse and distinctive blues bands in Australia, their sound being Southern and New Orleans styled, rather than the Chicago sound favoured by most other Australian blues bands.
New Orleans rhumbas, Zydeco, swing and rolling piano boogie are covered in the bands repertoire..."Distinctly Mojo Music, a swampy, deep south hot pot - full of exotic flavours" said Mark Doherty, noted blues reviewer in Australian roots music magazine RHYTHMS. The band are from Melbourne and have been performing for twelve years.
THE MOJOS have performed with many visiting international blues artists (Katie Webster, The Legends of the Mississippi, Trudy Lynn, Ford Blues Band,...) and been enthusiastically received at major folk, blues and jazz festivals around Australia, including Port Fairy Folk Festival, East Coast International Blues Festival (Byron Bay), Wangaratta Jazz Festival and 'Blues at Bridgetown' (WA). A live recording in concert was produced and broadcast by Australia's Radio National and footage of THE MOJOS performing has been included in two national TV series featuring blues festivals (including ABC TV's 'Blues Moon Over Byron'. In 1999 they were the house band for the ABC Radio opening of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
They are also gaining an international following, with their previous album ' Mumbo Gumbo' reaching Number 4 on the real Blues Charts in Germany. They also receive good airplay on US community and college radio stations and have been featured on the Internet Blues magazine 'Delta Snake Blues' (USA).
THE MOJOS are a five piece band whose members are Fiona Boyes (electric guitar/vocals), Kaz Dalla Rosa (harmonica), Paula Dowse (drums), Steve Brooks (bass) and Gina Woods (piano/organ/accordion). Their latest album "Swing O'Clock Blues" is distributed by Black Market Music (BMM 224.2) sees the band achieving a harder edge sound but still retaining their distinctive influences, with a tight interweaving front line, a rhythm section that grooves and great vocals - as well as showcasing the songwriting talents of various band members.
