I have put this information here because my dad suffers from Ischemic Cardiomyopathy.
I intend this only to be a starting point in searching for more information as
there is so much information available out there on the Internet. If anyone reading
these pages finds information that you think is worth linking to from this site feel free
to drop me a line via e-mail. I will check
the information out myself, and include it if indeed it is appropriate. To see the current
list of links click on the cardiomypathy links button on the right.
What is Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy is any of several Heart Muscle Diseases. There are several types
of Cardiomyopathy, among them are:
 | Ischemic - caused by lack of oxygen to the tissues of the heart, in which the
muscles of the heart are affected and the heart cannot pump properly |
 | Dilated - the heart muscle is weakened and cannot pump blood efficiently.
Decreased heart fuction affects the lungs, liver, and other body systems |
 | Alcoholic - a form of Dilated Cardiomyopathy resulting from
the excessive consumption of alcohol |
 | Peripartum - a form of Dilated Cardiomyopathy caused by
current or recent pregnancy |
 | Restrictive - the heart chambers are unable to fill properly and cannot pump
blood efficiently. The decreased heart function will affect the lungs, liver and
other body systems. |
 | Hypertropic - involves enlargment of the heart muscle which is out of
proportion to any workload on the heart, with the muscle enlargment interfering with the
functioning of the heart |
 | Idiopathic - a goup of disorders with unknown or no identifiable cause, in
which the heart muscle is weakened and cannot pump blood efficiently. This causes
decreased heart fuction that affects the lungs, liver and other body systems |
