Psalms and biblical songs for singing, Lent 2005

Matthew 6:9-13

And can we learn the prayer Jesus taught us so we can sing it from the heart?.

Hear us our Father

from Heaven we pray,

Your Name we respect,

Please come near and stay.

Our life here depends

On your gifts from above.

Since earth's ruled from heaven

Please give us our food.

We ask Lord forgive us,

When we go the wrong way

As we forgive others

Who have hurt us today.

Keep us from temptation,

And help us depart

From all that is evil

With love in our heart.

For you are Our Ruler

Your love meets our fear

Your power and your glory

Remain with us here.

So thank-you and "Amen"

Our Heavenly Friend

We remember you're with us

From now till the end.

Jesus made it plain. His disciples are to see themselves as children in His Father's Kingdom.

And since this is Lent, a time of reflection and reconsideration, it is worthwhile to re-define ourselves in songs that children could easily sing and teach us.

In the bible passage immediately after the prayer Jesus taught are these solemn words: For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. The pre-requisite for prayer is to forgive - forgive from the heart. Jesus taught that we might witness many miracles but the give of grace that we are to seek before all else is the gift of forgiveness. If we know how God's forgiveness has been poured into our lives then we cannot remain in a state of bitterness to those we are called to forgive. To be able to participate in that chain-reaction is part of the greatest miracle there is.
