Psalms for singing, Lent 2005
Psalm 67
("Aurelia")
|
May God to us be gracious, His Father's blessing give. Since when he smiles upon us We're sure that we will live. Your ways O God are known, The whole wide earth around. So grant all peoples praise You With glad and joyful sound. |
So sing we now our praises Our thankful joy in prayer. We join the song of gladness From peoples everywhere. Because you rule and judge us With truth and righteousness Our earthly life is guided You've banished our distress. |
Let tribes and nations honour Let all the peoples sing As we lift up our voices Our thankful hearts we bring. The earth displays its fullness More blessings from above The Mighty God Eternal Has filled His earth with love! |

This Psalm is based on the Ancient
Aaronic blessing which committed the people of Israel to God's Gracious
Providence and Protection. May the Lord bless you and keep you May the Lord make His face shine upon and be gracious unto you May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. Now, with the Coming of the
Messiah, the Christ, the People of God are called to continue the task of
preparing themselves which now can only be following Him and doing the work
He gives us to do. As we do so we find that we cannot but invite all peoples
everywhere to join in that same song of praise that is the One True historic
fulfillment of Aaron's blessing of God's redeemed people. The time before Easter reminds us
of the time Jesus was on His way up to Jerusalem, teaching His disciples and the crowds who followed. His
teaching prepares those who follow Him to sing this song and to make known in
song, word and deed the rich blessings that God pours out on all people. |
