The Stockland Proposal:

when will they get serious?

Part of Stockland propaganda, I notice, includes the prospects of cleaning up the Lonsdale Lakes area. As I have said before: a serious and responsible landowner would, by now, have initiated significant cleaning up. It is their property after all. They do not need our permission to do what owners do and are expected to do all the time.

And what about ensuring the future of the little woodland?

I have been banging on about this issue for some time. It would not still be under threat if the owners respected their stewardship for the land. We are talking about one of the nation's biggest developers. Lack of action by them compromises the future prospects of that significant environmental corner adjacent to Point Lonsdale.

Well are they big enough? Will they act to preserve this little woodland, whatever the outcome of their application? Will they do this before trying to inform us about how responsible they wish to be?

Nothing has eventuated to date to remove the broken down cars, the rusting fridges, the television sets and the litter and detritus. As well, the recent storms seriously battered this Moonah wood. What are they doing about it?

If you are of a mind to visit the office, take a peep at the three proposals that are put up for community comment. These are purely speculative. But though they graphically (some would say pompously) express Stockland's vision of the future, they seem to ignore the precious woodland.

Stockland is the current owner. We need concrete deeds before we can consider their proposals. They need to demonstrate that they are worthy land-owners. Trying to massage us with their three models is simply persiflage. Before we consider any proposals they might put to us, let them first demonstrate their stewardship - let them clean up what is their's to clean up - let them start with the woodland. Let them show that they are committed, by securing its future, by arranging for a permanent parks officer to care for its maintenance, to ensure it's day-to-day security and to implement measures that would protect it from further decline. As long as this anomaly remains the Stockland proposals should not even be on our radar.
