A Christian Hymn for

Days of National Significance

It's not perfect. It needs work. It's presented here to encourage some reflection upon how we celebrate our nation's life in a Christian way.

The Lord our God created us

To serve Him in this place

He formed this soil, calls us to toil

With joy before His face..

Our many deeds of national pride

Brought justice to disgrace

So now we turn and seek the path

Of justice, truth and grace.

That God in Christ, none else beside

Will bless us in this place.

This Southern land, our ancient land

Was peopled long ago.

Joint stewardship let us take up

Our common wealth to grow.

But God first come and bless us all,

Our neighbours and our own,

Our nation rule in love and grace

And make our plight Your own

Our nation shower with love and grace,

To serve as You have shown.

God help us face our poverty

Inspired by Jesus' love

Our stolen generations heal'd

And so Your justice prove.

Such haunting failures from our past

Release us from our fears

Our nation's health and strength renew

And wipe away our tears

We are so sorry Lord of life

Come wipe away all tears.

We thank our Lord for what He gives

To serve His kingdom here.

All social life within His sway,

With love we need not fear.

An open heart that loves abroad

And gives until its hurts.

We serve because He first served us

And took our just deserts.

We serve because He first served us

And took our just deserts.

Oh Jesus Christ renew our lives

To serve You on this ground,

Bless all in toil, heal salty soil,

Our common wealth abound.

May justice roll and kindness grow

In duty, work and play.

May You the world's True Light shine here

Turn darkness into day..

O Holy Dove grant us Your peace

To walk the humble way..
