Henrietta Dubb's Diary

Angels, Poetry and Hope - 2

When John was born there was a party; some were calling the baby Zach II. Zach I reached for his writing tablet: "His name is John, God's beloved!" Holding it up for all to see, his voice returned.

You might think we are changing

A tradition true and tried

And well you may be speechless

Like me whose tongue was tied

For I argued with the angel

When God's news he gave to me.

His name's John - and I'm not asking;

That's just how it's going to be!

Well, the family was dumbstruck as a matter of fact but they listened to Zach's song which he had composed during Lizzie's confinement.

Three cheers give for God Almighty,

Israel's Lord hip-hip hooray!

He has come and kept us safe

Watches us from day to day.

Three cheers give for God Almighty

Israel's Lord hip-hip hooray!

He has promised full protection

David's house has come to stay.

Three cheers give for God Almighty

Israel's Lord hip-hip hooray!

Spoken clearly by the prophets

Helping us to walk His way

Three cheers give for God Almighty

Israel's Lord hip-hip hooray!

Thwarting enemies who hate us

Saving us from hands that slay

Three cheers give for God Almighty

Israel's Lord hip-hip hooray!

His own promises remind us

Mercy triumphs to this day!

Three cheers give for God Almighty

Israel's Lord hip-hip hooray!

Abraham God's oath heard it

And so we follow all the way.

And you child the Most High's prophet

Preparing for the One to come

Telling all of God's own people

That means many, not just some

Three cheers give for God Almighty

Israel's Lord hip-hip hooray!

As forgiveness and salvation

Poured out on us and here to stay.

A new day dawns in God's own mercy

Darkness and death's fear repelled

God shall surely guide our footsteps

The way of peace He has upheld.
