ChriStian radical reflectionS

The Christian Radical Club existed for three years at Monash University (1971-1974). I helped form that club which was all about the vocation of the Christian student. This site keeps that flag flying. Could Christian Radical Clubs get moving at universities and places of higher education in Australia, New Zealand and wherever else the cause may take hold? Why not?

Around the world higher education has well and truly been incorporated into commercial life. And so, there is as much need now for Christian Radical Clubs as there was 30 years ago. But exactly how they will operate can not easily be determined. Maybe they will be a specialized group operating within the context of an already existing organisation, church or club. Maybe they will emerge locally as an organised student response to the Micah Challenge or some other Christian global movement.

This site features articles that promote a Christian approach to student life and politics. The Christian Radical Club was a student initiative developing a distinctive Christian profession which refused alignment with either left or right. It was an initiative by Christian students who sought to accept their responsibility for the social context in which they found themselves.

Empowerment in the Christian student vocation occurs when followers of Jesus, wherever they are, and in particular at university, see their lives as God's handiwork. Women and men, so inspired, see their distinctive spirituality as of one piece with Jesus' call to take up the cross to be His student.

Christian Radical Reflections aims to encourage Christian students wherever they are. Who knows what Christian obedience might lead? With God's blessing we might see, for example, the development of a vigorous tradition of Christian journalism that can assist followers of Jesus, and any others who might read, in their day-to-day discipleship in our increasingly inter-relating world.
