BARF - A DIET FOR LIFE

BARF = Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (or Bones and Raw Food).
Here at Bakkabyond we choose to feed our dogs and raise our puppies on a raw food diet.

This type of diet is not for everyone and we suggest that you talk with your vet, your breeder and read up on the subject thoroughly before attempting to change your dog’s diet plan. It is important to understand the different types of foods and how to use them to their best advantage to form a balanced diet for your dog. It is certainly not a cheaper way of feeding and it is definitely more time consuming that opening a can or bag of food. But the results of feeding this type of diet have proven to us that our dogs are benefiting.

We like the versatility of this way of feeding - the ability to add variety to the diet, to alter ingredients depending on the needs of your dog at any given stage of its development. It also makes it much easier to isolate those ingredients which may be causing allergies or reactions. We never have to worry whether there is any dog food in the house — they eat what we eat — meat, vegetables, fruit, fish, yoghurt, pasta, rice, eggs, etc. Their coats shine, their eyes are bright and they have plenty of energy. But best of all, the vet bills are minimal as hotspots are now a thing of the past.

There are quite a few books on the subject of raw food feeding but the diet we follow most closely is the one set down by Dr Ian Billinghurst. Click here to visit his website and learn more about BARF diets and the benefits for you and your dog.
