THUNDER ALLEY Race report, 21/2/99.

This is a new business set up by Albert Hook and family, at James St, in Toowoomba. The track is the ex-Penrith track that Garry Johnson built for the 1990 Australian Nationals. The first King Track in Australia to run a sub 2.000sec lap time, and the track is back as a lap record eater. With good power, fast turns of the Euro Style King Design. Records will be set on this Track.

On Saturday, the real enthusiasts where there to give there support, Wayne Bramble and Charles Rickards from Sydney were there to race, Perry Vaggelas and Keith Wade came up from Brisbane, Danny Miller and Darrin Gary and a few unnamed local kids. To get the track ready, they had planed to have 2 class races but with only 2 for each class Group 15 and Group20, we conbined them to have one race. TQ, and Concourse winner was Perry Vaggelas, G15 time of 2.727sec. We where testing what power was needed as there was lots in reserve. Perry was leading most of the way, but had a early barbecue in the 7th. heat Hooky took the lead position and then joined the barbecue in the 8th, Perry returned to the race and to Keith for a very close finish in the end. 1st place went to Hooky 232, Perry 230, Keith 229, and Danny 159.
"G15’s beat G20 Again!"

Sunday we had the people from Ipswich to add to the numbers of racers entered for the first 27 and Open race at this venue. Charlie TQed with a 2.275sec lap, Perry was close but didn’t get the traction needed at the right time. Perry was Concourse Winner. There were 6 entries and we had a good set of dedicated marshals for the race. Perry lead for most of the race, but we did have three different leaders throughout the race, but Perry come out on top with 595 laps in 1st place and Charlie with a hard charge at the end on 592, Billy 575, Hooky 566, Keith 559, and Mark 528. All finished near the qualifying order except the top two, so to me this is the sign of a great track and a good race.

The main event,
Wayne TQed and set a lap record time for the shop with 2.018sec. Perry was Concourse winner. The race was at a good motor smoking pace, Perry and Keith set out to just run one motor, just to see because of the trend in the USA to have one motor open racing. Keith set the highest total of 117 laps on blue lane and he also turned 115 laps on green, Perry recorded 115 laps on yellow, all with one motor they used of the entire race. Charlie turn 115 laps with a fresh motor in the 8th, on orange lane in a effort to close the gap, which made a very close finish. Wayne Bramble was the winner with 808 laps, Charlie Rickards 807 laps, Keith Wade 765 laps, Perry Vaggelas 734 laps, Mark Cummings 577 laps, Hooky 313 laps.
