DEAR RACERS
We’re proud to announce the return of the Brock Trophy Race in October 2007 to Mobile Raceways in Dandenong, Victoria. The racing will be held on our 155’ Johnson Blue King (formerly from Stafford Queensland). It has (4) Bulldog 55 amp state of the art power supplies connected to 4 x 200 amp hour batteries. On the weekend of "The Brock Trophy" we will have 6 Rivergates and 6 x 200 amp hour batteries installed. The Rivergate reputation is well known in the U.S.A for their reliability, consistency and clean power delivery. On top of this we 4 x 1.2 farad capacitors with individual volt meters, which have been installed in such a position so they can be easily monitored by any racer or official at any time during a race.
There is also a large overhead projector screen (1.2m x 1.5m) which allows everyone a great view of the JRS race screen from almost anywhere within the 6,000 square foot Raceway. It also functions as a notice board between races displaying such information as race results and the timing of following races etc. A closed circuit camera and 51cm colour TV has been positioned near under the bridge to allow the "Donut marshal" and "Race Director" a better view of what’s happening under the bridge section.
We’re also glad to have Gary Fry along as the Race Director. His experience at major slot car events and knowledge of slot car racing, along with having hosted many National events of his own, will help the event run smoothly.
Our first class will kick off on Friday afternoon with the 16D Tourers. Then the Sealed Super 16D Flexi-kars will follow that evening. On Saturday morning we start with GTP12’s and then G12 Wing cars and INT.15’s. On Sunday morning G27’s and then G7 rounding off the weekend.
During the event, Debbie will cater for those hungry appetites right through the weekend. Hot and cold food, snacks and drinks will always be on hand. Also, Rent-a-Bomb in Dandenong is within walking distance if you need a cheap hire car for the weekend. The Formule 1 motel is just around the corner about 5 minutes down the Princes Highway by car.
The Airport Shuttle timetable between Tullamarine Airport and Dandenong Railway Station is available by ringing this number … 03-9782-6766 … and bookings are essential! And we are only a 10 minute walk from Dandenong Station.
If you require more information about the Brock Trophy race or other relevant details, please don’t hesitate to call me at the Track on 03-9791-4242 or by email peter@mrslotcar.com
Regards, Peter Van Horssen

DISPUTES AND INTERPRETATION OF THE RULES
If a dispute arises, or if these rules need to be interpreted, the Race Director will resolve the dispute or interpret these rules as the case may require. The Race Director will make all decisions in the interests of maintaining fair and equitable race conditions for the competitors. The Race Director’s decision is final, and there is no appeal from the Race Director’s decision. If a situation arises that is not covered by these rules, then the Race Director may refer to the current edition of the USRA Rulebook for guidance. However:
There is no compulsion for the Race Director to make such a reference;
Any decision that the Race Director makes will be final and binding whether or not the Race Director refers to the USRA Rulebook; and
In the event of any conflict between these rules and the USRA Rulebook these rules will take precedence.
"Commercially available" means commercially available in Australia. If we haven’t seen it on sale at any
Australian Slot Car Centre, then it’s not commercially available in Australia, and not "commercially available" for the purposes of these rules.RULES
CARS AND SCRUTINEERING:
Cars must comply with the specifications for their class and any relevant general rules at all times whilst racing, unless specifically stated.
Cars will be scrutineered and impounded prior to Qualifying.
Cars can/will be inspected prior to all races.
Any component may be replaced with the exception of the chassis and body.
Cars may be inspected at any time at the discretion of the Race Director.
Any car may undergo a teardown inspection after a racing.
All repairs and replacement components must comply with the relevant class specifications.
CONTROLLERS AND DRIVING:
Any control device may be used as long as it does not increase voltage to the track.
The Race Director may inspect controllers at his/her discretion.
Any device that is found to interfere with the track computer system will be banned.
Only the entered driver may operate any device which controls their car on the track.
There must be no outside assistance in the operation of controllers, chokes, etc.
Only drivers competing in the current race will be allowed at the drivers’ panel. Special consideration will be given to Disabled drivers.
QUALIFYING:
Will be in reverse order of entry.
One minute for Sedan classes.
Two minutes for ALL wing classes.
Byes may be called in "wing" classes only (30 second penalty per bye).
RACE FORMAT:
Modified U.S.R.A. "move up" system as per 2001 Australian Nationals.
All entrants will contest a series of "consies", heats, quarter finals, semi finals and finals dependant on the number of entries.
All races designated as "consies" will be contested over four lanes only, running on either the "red set" ie: red, green, blue, purple or the "black set" ie: black, yellow, orange, white.
All other races will be contested over eight lanes.
All races will be on a "move up" basis.
See class rules for heat and lane change times.
The following schedule has been adopted to ensure that a minimum of four drivers will move up from each race.
1 to 8 entries: Final only.
9 entries: One heat and final.
Fastest qualifier into final - top seven in heat move up.
10 to 16 entries: Two semis and final.
Top four in each semi move up.
17 to 20 entries: One heat, two semis and a final.
Fastest twelve qualifiers into semis top four in heat move up.
21 to 24 entries: Two heats, two semis and final.
Fastest eight qualifiers into semis - top four in each heat move up.
25 to 32 entries: Four quarter finals, two semis and final.
All entrants start in quarter finals - top four in each heat move up.
33 to 36 entries: One consi, four quarter finals, two semis and final.
Fastest twenty-eight qualifiers into quarter finals - top four in consi move up.
37 to 40 entries: Two consies, four quarter finals, two semis and final.
Fastest twenty-four qualifiers into quarter finals - top four in each consi move up.
40 plus entries: Fastest sixteen qualifiers in the quarter finals.
All other drivers will be seeded into a number of consies with the top four lap scorers in each consi moving up to the next stage the race schedule.
Lane choice will be determined by either qualifying position or position from previous heat.
LAP COUNTING SYSTEM:
The "Johnson Racing Systems" computer system version 4 will be used for all events. This system incorporates the following unique features which drivers must be aware of:
Rider detection - the system will implement an automatic "track call" if it detects a lap time shorter than a pre-programmed time delay and the lap is not counted. This time delay is usually set to one tenth of a second shorter than the fastest qualifier. Cars which cross the lap counter on the wrong lane causing such a "track call" will be replaced on the correct lane immediately before the lap counter, thereby eliminating any gained or lost laps.
LAP COUNTING SYSTEM: (continued)
Short Lap - Drivers should be aware that the "JRS" system treats each bracket as a continuation of the preceding bracket. Therefore if a car is moved forward on the track during a lane change, it will trigger a "Short Lap" when it crosses the lap counter. If this should happen then the offending car will not be credited with the lap and will restart from where it stopped. This is effectively a one lap penalty for cheating on lane changes.
Time factor - at the end of the last bracket for each race all cars must continue racing until they cross the lap counter. As each car crosses the lap counter the power on their lane is shut off by the computer. This eliminates the need to take percentages and means that all positions on the computer are correct at the end of racing. Each car is given a time factor, which is the time from when the bracket expired to when the car crossed the lap counter (accurate to one thousandth of a second). Drivers must be aware that the race does not finish until they cross the lap counter or a maximum of ten seconds expires.
TRACK CALLS:
Track calls will be initiated only in the following circumstances:
automatic rider "track call";
cars off in main straight or bank;
unmarshallable car;
a marshall has too many cars to cope with;
marshall not in position;
track fault.
When making track calls, the intention of the Race Director will be to maintain fair racing conditions.
MARSHALLING:
Entrants must marshal the semi/quarter/heat/consi after their own.
The drivers from the last semi/quarter/heat/consi will marshal the first semi/quarter/heat/consi.
Disabled drivers are required to nominate an acceptable substitute.
BLACK FLAG:
The Race Director will demand the removal from the track of any car which is dragging on the track, interfering with other cars, or continually deslotting.
The car may be repaired and returned to the track once repaired.
If the problem continues, the black flag will be enforced again.
GUIDE AND LEAD WIRE:
Only one guide per car.
Guide clips may be used.
Any lead wire may be used.
FRONT WHEELS:
All cars must be fitted with two front wheels located in the normal chassis position.
All Flexi Kar classes must be fitted with aluminium type front wheels with "O" ring tyres.
All other classes including Gp12 GTP and Wing cars may use the full rubber type wheels.
The front wheels in Flexi Kar classes must contact the track surface and prevent any part of the chassis contacting the track surface, when the car is rocked from side to side (the "tip and touch" rule).
REAR WHEELS:
Any colour/compound rear wheels may be used.
BODIES:
All bodies used must be commercially available and must cover the entire chassis and guide.
No parts other than rear wheels may protrude.
Where a particular body or range of bodies is specified they must not be cut above the manufacturer's cut line.
Bodies must be painted to appear opaque with the exception of windows, which must be left clear.
Bodies must display at least three identical racing numbers.
Front wheel arches must also be left clear or cut out so that front wheels are clearly visible.
Interiors where required must be painted in a minimum of three colours so as to maintain an appearance of realism and be of a correct scale and size to cover the entire inside of the car from front to rear windows and side to side.
Wing car interiors are permitted in Wing 12, Int. 15, Group 27 and Group 7.
Bodies may be reinforced with tape and/or other suitable materials.
Front edges of side dams must be taped to prevent injury to marshals and spectators.
Maximum wing height (wing cars) - 63.5mm.
Maximum front diaplane length (wing cars) - 12.7mm.
Air control devices other than those provided by the manufacturer for that particular body are not permitted for Flexi-Kars and Group 12 sedans.
