What flag is that?
Okay, now this is a weird thing to have on a website, but it did prove useful. The other day at work, we were trying to work out what country a certain flag was from. It was on the back of a backpack, carried by, you guessed it, a backpacker! But, how do you search for a country's flag, if you don't know the name of the country? Easy, you go to the Flag Detective. It is like a reverse search engine for flags. Okay, maybe I've got too much spare time, but I thought it was cool... TODAY on apb - Wednesday,November 27,2002
Don't look at the eclipse!
Whew, almost forgot to write an article today. Sorry about that! Anyway, events today have reminded me that in a weeks time, we will be lucky enough to witness a solar eclipse. Well, some people will, anyway. In Australia, there will be a narrow strip of land in South Australia which will experience a total eclipse. If you want to know about the solar eclipse of 2002, and lets face it, who doesn't, check out the website of the Astronomical Society of South Australia. Remember, everyone is a space geek really... Geeky fun
The Desktop Engineers Junk Drawer is billed as 'Handy odds n ends for managing Windows'. And it is just that! The info is a bit tech heavy sometimes, but there are programs to download, and information on hundreds of computer topics. The 'Just for Fun' section contains clever programs and gadgets that nerdy types everywhere will love. Arriba!
More Superheroes than you can poke a stick at!
Once again I seem to be talking about comic related websites. Oh well. I'm a very regular visitor to the DCU Web List, which is an index of websites related to characters in DC Comics, like Batman and Superman, but including literally hundreds of other characters, some very obscure. It's a pretty big effort, and appears to be updated at least semi-regularly. Enjoy! TODAY on apb - Monday,November 25,2002
Break The Chain
Email is the killer app of the internet. Email is a pain in the arse. Both statements are true! I was going to write about spam today, but I remembered this website, and decided to write about chain letters instead. Doesn't it drive you mad when people (often well meaning people) forward you emails about all sorts of rumours, petitions, viruses, hoaxes, and stuff that just 'must be forwarded to 200 people in the next five minutes'... Like, a six pack of beer is going to appear in my CDROM drawer if I follow the instructions on some email..! Actually, that would be cool. Anyway, Break The Chain is a great website, because it collects every urban myth email from the internet. Use it to encourage people to stop forwarding junk email. As if spam wasn't bad enough...
