Day 5 - 24 Jan 2007

On the night of Day 4 we camped down in the creek we had entered that afternoon. On Day 5 we did a day trip up one tributary and down the next. On this day we found the most spectacular canyon of the trip. All the photos on this page are from the single canyon. It was a truly incredible canyon, very long and committing, with many short drops. It took us many hours to get through this impressive canyon.

The canyon started off shallow initially but it just kept going.

The canyon continues.

Jo checks out the canyon.

Does anyone know what this plant is?

Then the canyon starts dropping.

And from then on the canyon is deep and committing.

Deep canyon walls.

The canyon is quite narrow in places.

And it just keeps going.

Then things get serious. The canyon is very narrow and committing.

Spectacular and dark.

It just keeps getting better.

We abseiled off the log that you see stradling the walls of the canyon.

And then we entered a deep and dark slot that is as good as any canyon anywhere.

And it just keeps going.

and going.
