| Mt Waverley is a residential suburb on the eastern side of Melbourne - about half way (20 Km) between the city and "The Dandenongs". The Mt Dandenong area, in addition to being picturesque and containing many restaurants that serve "Devonshire Teas" (scones with lots of jam and cream !) it is also the home of "Puffing Billy", a narrow gauge tourist railway. |
Peter completed his degree in communications engineering at the University of New South Wales in 1967 and after completing over thirty years with Telstra (previously Telecom Australia), the national telecommunications carrier, has set up his own consultancy practice.
In addition to his telecommunications career, Peter has also served the community in a number of ways. He was elected to his local council as a Councillor for seven years, including a period of twelve months when he was Mayor. During this period he chaired a number of Council Standing Committees and was directly involved in the setting of council policy and future strategy.
In 1979, following the pre-requisite study, Peter obtained his Radio Amateur Operators Certificate of Proficiency and since then has held a limited class licence with the call sign VK3YRP. He has also served on the Federal Executive of the Wireless Institute of Australia, having been chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee and also Federal President. During this period Peter was responsible for negotiating with the Department of Communications on a number of technical issues, including band planning, repeater linking and the introduction of the transmission of data using packet radio techniques.
| Peter's other interests include genealogy and railways - full size and model. He is currently planning a modest HO model railroad that will be started when he has completed his current project - painting his recently extended house. His interest in layout planning has led him to join the US based Layout Design Special Interest Group. | ![]() |
Following the completion of some research into his family background, Peter published a booklet on his family's history. Since then, some more research has provided further information and his branch of the Gamble Family can now be traced back through Shropshire in the 1800's to Newtown, Wales in the 1790's. Peter is now using the resources of the Internet to link with other Gamble Family researchers.
Following the discovery of some family details in an old family Bible in the possession of his father-in-law, George Sessions, he is also researching the Sessions Family. George's grandfather, James William Sessions (the son of James and Elizabeth Sessions) was born in Colnbrook (just outside of London, a couple of miles from Heathrow) in 1843.
Peter has been using computers in his work (and at home) for over thirty years and currently uses Windows 95, Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint for his business and hobby activities. These pages have been compiled using MS Word V7, MS Internet Assistant V2, MS Powerpoint V7, and Paint Shop Pro V4.
