EMI AUSTRALIA WILL BE RELEASING THE ORIGINAL ALBUM OF "YOUR MAMA WONT LIKE ME" SOMETIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE,
I HAVE DISCOVERED A RELEASE OF THIS ALBUM ON CD IN RUSSIA IN A DOUBLE PACK, HOWEVER
THE EMI ONE WILL BE REMASTERED AND PACKAGED AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE ORIGINAL COVER.
.......I HAD A TALK WITH SUZI ABOUT THIS ALBUM.....................29/10/99
PAT........... HI SUZI, THANKS FOR THE INTERVIEW,... ITS 1975 YOU HAVE ALREADY HAD 2 YEARS OF MAJOR SUCCESS WITH THE FIRST TO ALBUMS
"SUZI QUATRO" AND "QUATRO". BOTH CONSIDERED GLAM. ALBUMS AT THE TIME ALTHOUGH CONSISTING
OF STRONGER MATERIAL. WHAT KIND OF PRESSURE WAS ON YOU AND THE BAND TO COME
UP WITH A 3RD SUCCESSFUL ALBUM? WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME 1975, A 26 YEAR OLD HAVING MADE HER MARK ON THE MUSIC WORLD IN A UNIQUE WAY AND DEALING WITH FAME?
SUZI ....... its funny to be considered glam, musically...we were anything but...in
fact i would have said we were more of a boogie band...in l975 I was doing
nothing but working...t.v.'s, interviews, photo sessions...very involved with
my carreer..and totally loving it...I was dealing with fame fine...only
problem was, I was a very normal girl, not into drugs or drink ,,,drink a
little but never to excess...and I was living in a crazy world...it took
every bit of my mothers sensible upbringing to get me through without
succumbing to temptation....I am the kind of person that after a great gig,
can actually go to bed happy and satisfied....strange but true
PAT......... THERE ARE 3 NICKY CHINN AND MIKE CHAPMAN SONGS ON THE ALBUM, MOST NOTABLY THE TITLE
TRACK, "YOUR MAMA WON'T LIKE ME, BUT ITS THE LAST SONG ON THE ALBUM A QUATRO/TUCKEY WRITTEN
TRACK "MICHAEL" THAT IS ONE OF THE FAVOURITES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, YET ONLY HAD LIMITED RELEASE
IN SOME COUNTRIES, HOW DID YOU COME TO WRITE THAT PARTICULAR SONG?
SUZI........ this song is a favorite around the world and I think possibly Len and my
best co-written tune....from this lp. on wards Len really didn't write
anything all though he was still credited..i think he got fed up with our
songs never being chosen as singles, he thought is was frustrating...I think
this was something that was pourposely done to keep /Chinn/Chapman
happy.....stilll, we wrote most of the albums so that was okay....it was
written about my first boyfriend when I came to england...he was a dj....we
were going out together and he decided because i couldn't cook and clean,
that I wasn't the girl for him....i was heartbroken...haven't cooked or
cleaned since...what does that tell you?
PAT....... THIS ALBUM WAS A TURNING POINT AWAY FROM THE PREVIOUS ALBUMS, WITH A MORE RAW AND
FUNKY MUSICAL SOUND, IS IT TRUE THAT ANOTHER ALBUM WAS RECORDED AROUND THIS TIME THAT REMAINS
UNRELEASED ?
SUZI.......... no, there is no unreleaased album.....this was a deliberate change of
style...we felt we had to stretch our musical wings and go in a different
direction...i am very pleased with the album...some excellent songs, well
played, and the track for 'Ibit off more than I could chew' is my favorite
one...and that was before the vocals...it haas a real groove to it and the
original backing track before it was mixed down went for five minutes after
the song ended, we just couldn't bring ourselves to stop playing....after
that, aas far as I'm concerned the band went down....that track was about as
far as they could go as a unit./..just my opinion..but after all, it is my
band...
SUZI........'You can make me want you'....I used to love doing this one live...I adore
half and half songs, dynamics etc...used to do this on the 65 date Alice
cooper tour in l975, and it was the favorite from the show according to the
audience and crew and bands...the lyrics are how I feel...sex and love are
not always equated....you can make me want you but i ain't gonna love you...
PAT....YOUR SISTER PATTI QUATRO WAS IN LONDON AT THE TIME OF THE RECORDING, DID PATTI DO BACK UP
VOCALS ON THE ALBUM?
SUZI........ Patty can be heard quite clearly on 'your mamma won't like me'....she has
a high distinctive voice...only problem was the microphone,,,,needless to
say, since she is 6' tall, we didn't share one....my two sisters were just
over to do three shows in europe with me....it was fantastic singing with
them again.
PAT...... WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG FROM THIS ALBUM?, AND WHY?
