On April 2 2000, Damon and Noni officially set off on an arduous
nationwide tour, designated
as Barnardos Bandwagon. For the next 18 months they will visit as many towns
as possible with the explicit aim of raising $500,000 for Barnardos Australia. The official launch took place at the Antique Mechanical
Music Museum at the Service City Collection, Botany Road, Alexandria, Sydney.
The launch was attended by family and friends and by Glynis Sequeira from Barnardos
Australia. The Antique Mechanical Music Museum must by one of Sydney's best
kept secrets. Ranked as one of the best in the world, it contains an extensive
collection of Dutch Street Organs, Music Boxes, and many other various mechanical
musical instruments including a fully operational Merry Go Round with the original
Luna Park Organ. For over an hour the guests were treated to a kaleidoscope
of sound, colour and music, and to feelings of nostalgia as each instrument
was demonstrated and vivid memories of a bygone carnival era were evoked.
Then, after short and simple speeches by Damon and Glynis,
Barnardos Bandwagon took to the road.
