Preparations

To prepare Australia Fair for the demanding travel that is to be undertaken, considerable preparation and expenditure was required.

• Australia Fair's ornate facade was stripped back and gilded. This was completed in January 2000 (thanks to the generous support of our listeners and audience).
• The main bellows which were showing signs of wear were removed and recovered.
• The percussion units were overhauled and reskinned.
• Because of certain extreme road conditions we expect to encounter, the trailer for Australia Fair was strengthened and air bag suspension fitted.
• The truck underwent a major service and spares including a second transmission were purchased.
