The
Dame is the beautiful Grand Concert Street Organ called
'Australia Fair’. Since 1993, Damon O'Donoghue has been introducing
this person made musical wonder to major towns and cities along the Australian
East Coast. ‘Australia Fair’ has something for everyone to admire. With
442 pipes, 24-note glockenspiel, drums and cymbals,
‘Australia Fair’ produces concert quality music far superior
to its counterparts of the day. The perfect operation of its valves, levers,
springs, wires and cogs will leave you in awe, and its fine ornate wood
carved features, delicately hand painted, gives
‘Australia Fair’ a beauty of its own. Not content to just
restrict this Grand Lady to major towns, Damon and Noni wished for all
of Australia to see and enjoy her and so began….
Driving
around Australia may sound like fun. Take with you a 2.5 tonne Lady and
the journey becomes a whole new story! For seven months Damon and Noni
have been planning such a trip. Encompassing over 40 000km and twelve
months of travel, Damon and Noni plan to visit as many towns and cities
around Australia as possible, bringing with them their much loved Grand
Dame. For many small towns this may be a once in a lifetime occasion and
for some folks it could be the only time in their lives to see, hear and
enjoy such a fantastic mechanical musical instrument. For Damon and Noni
however, sharing ‘Australia Fair’ with the rest of Australia was not the
complete dream. It also came with….
We
all have dreams but no more so than children. For over 100 years
Barnardos Australia has devoted itself to the caring of needy,
neglected, abused or unwanted children, a task that is becoming evermore
demanding. Damon and Noni saw an opportunity in their dream to help Australia
through Barnardos Australia, and so
was born the Barnardos’ Bandwagon.
Their
mission is to raise $500,000 for Barnardos
Australia. This is to be achieved by donations and by the sale
of specific merchandise with 100% of the proceeds going to
Barnardos. It is through such efforts that Barnardos
Australia are able to continue their work and so make it possible
for deprived or abused children to also have their dreams. As Barnardos
Bandwagon takes to the road, Damon and Noni have fulfilled
the start of their dream and mission. What follows now is…
When
Damon and Noni bring Barnardos’ Bandwagon
to you (an experience not to be missed!), their hope is now that you will
support their mission, and its worthy cause. Donations and merchandise
purchases can be made when the Barnardos Bandwagon
hits your town or at any time, directly to Barnardos
via their freecall 1800 061 000 or by post to
