JEREMIAH LANDER, his wife Miriam
and his four children Jemima Tomes Lander, Julia Lander, James Lander
and George William Lander arrived in Sydney 21/10/1854 aboard the
"Anglo Saxon". They originated from the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset where
the Lander family has lived since the early 1600s. Jemima married Moses Corben
and Julia married George Robert Keats who both came from Purbeck. James drowned,
at age 10, in a waterhole in Chisholm's Paddock, near Redfern NSW. George (my
Great Grandfather) became an alderman and mayor of Redfern and was a member of
the board of the first "Metropolitan Board of Water Supply and
Sewerage" of Sydney.
