Kingdom now -
Resurrection now
Christians
generally accept that 'the Kingdom' and 'the resurrection' are linked
metaphors in the New Testament.
The present tense of the Resurrection
However
while there is a grudging acceptance that there is an important
present tense aspect of Kingdom now, the present tense dimension of
Resurrection now often gets missed.
Yet
the present tense resurrection now doctrine is the core teaching of
the authentic letters of St Paul
-
Col 3:1 If then
you were raised with Christ, seek those things
which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.
-
Eph
2:6 and has
raised us up
together and made us sit together in the heavenlies
in Christ Jesus,
And
is the foundation of the born again doctrine in the Gospel of John.
The
great irony is that this key doctrine of Paul, was condemned in a
letter now widely accepted to be wrongly attributed to him.
The
authoritarian Church specifically condemned the concept that:
The
resurrection (την
αναστασιν)
has
now come (ηδη
γεγονεναι)
in
2 Timothy
2Ti
2:16 But shun profane, vain babblings, for they will increase to
more ungodliness. 17 And their word will eat like a
gangrene; among whom are
Hymeneus and Philetus, 18
who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is
already past, and who overthrow the faith of some.
Why
forge a letter to condemn a doctine that the real Paul held as vital?
To
deal with the spiritual descendants of Paul. Marcion, Valentinus,
and those who have been referred to as the Gnostic Christians.
